We have finally decided to purchase our own in house Kitchen and Bedroom design suite, this will allow us to create beautiful designs with you either in your own home or at our show room. You can choose every thing down to the exact colour on the walls, appliances, tiles and work surface. to be able to choose for yourself and to make changes at the click of a button will really make the experience something to remember.

The presentation will consist of full colour High resolution images, line drawn elevations and a detailed plan view with a parts list.

Line Drawn Elevations make it easy to see where everything is with dimensions.

The Zurfiz range was designed to compete with the German sector at very competitive prices, manufactured in Ireland at the main BA Factory. Showroom Now Open!

Well, its been a busy month! We said the new showroom would be open in April but even we didn't think it would be the first day in April! No this isn't an April fool. Although the showroom is up and running it is still in the preliminary stages, there is so much more that we want to add to make the whole experience much more comprehensive for our customers. We have been in touch with Butterfields Granite and they are supplying me with a taster range of stone and quartz and also several Sample doors from the Bella range. There is also a small high gloss Acrylic display (Zurfiz) which in my opinion is the best quality high gloss door on the market and completely bespoke! It really does give the customer a taste of what is on offer plus endless brochures and catalogues featuring fancy and inovative storage ideas through to appliances and lighting. We offer everything from modern through to traditional, and if you want to really make a statement then why not add some outlandish curved designs into the mix!

New Show room set to open in April!

It has been a very busy few months here at David Head Furniture. We have made several quite significant changes. Sadly we have seen the departure of Tom Hayward who has been replaced by a new up and coming furniture maker by the name of Julian woods. He has fitted in really well and has taken over the role of finishing manager. Also the new arrival of an old friend to David Head furniture is Tom Fullbrook who has taken on the position of workshop manager which has freed me up a little to concentrate more on the sales side of the business. I have to say, it is working extremely well. Work load has increased a huge amount making me run around like a headless chicken making sure we are all kept busy! Alex Duncan is now in his last year of his apprenticeship and is turning out to be a real asset to the company.

We are now in the process of creating a fairly humble but feature packed showroom to give customers a chance to come along and take a good look at what we have to offer, from bespoke custom made kitchens through to office/bedroom furniture. When the show room opens it will give me the opportunity to invite prospected customers to a free consultation where I can run through everything from choice of kitchen taps to handle styles.

I am very exited to get the showroom up and running and feel that this is a real positive step forward for the Company. I am sure it will help my customers to visualise their ideas a lot easier. An Alternative to Cyrus Audio's Hark Rack?

I have been a huge fan of audiophile hi-fi for many years and have owned several different makes including Arcam, Teac, and Naim but was blown away by Cyrus, a British manufacturer of audiophile hi-fi of the utmost quality. My passion for music lead me to my first piece of hi-fi, a Teac reference 500 and so the ball was rolling! I then progressed through the different 'quality' makes and ended on a complete Cyrus 7 system. Not only is the Cyrus gear beautiful to listen to, it also has a visual presence that in my opinion, no other can match but having said that it must be placed in the right environment. Most who know of Cyrus will be familiar with the elegant industrial looking Cyrus Hark Rack, I always wanted one but never got round to purchasing it. I started My Furniture making business in late 1997 where I produced various comissioned pieces from out of my garage. Things progressed pretty quick and I had to buy a proper workshop, so needless to say, the Cyrus Hi-fi went, along with my car to fund the expense of machinery etc. I was quietly heartbroken but knew it would be worth it in the end. I have now recently purchased a new Cyrus system. I then scoured the Internet in search of a black Cyrus Hark only to find Cyrus had discontinued it in favour of the 'silver only' Hark 2. After getting over my disappointment I decided to make an alternative Hark style rack using solid timber and clear acrylic suspended shelves. Take a look at the prototype, I think the outcome is a stunning alternative to the Cyrus Hark rack. I can make these to order in any timber to closely match to existing furniture, I can design a contemporary or traditional style and everything in between. As you can see in the pictures, I am using temporary shelves as the Acrylic shelves haven't arrived yet. I hope to retail the rack with six shelves for around £750/£850 depending on style and timber.

I used solid Oak stained dark to match my exising furniture and have allowed for expansion of components for the future. I think you'll agree that this really is a perfect and versatile alternative to the original Cyrus Hark. Another Painted Shaker kitchen with a twist.

This is similar to some of the other shaker kitchens that we have done in the past, with the addition of panelling in place of conventional tiling. I really like the outcome of this design, it keeps the timeless style that you get with a Shaker kitchen but the panelling gives a slightly more contemporary look.

Contemporary Oak Lounge Furniture

Here we have a complete set! My Customer wanted to create a theme that ran through the whole room, with a mild contemprary look and feel. Before starting the work we spoke in great detail about what the customer wanted. He had a decent pair of Hi-fi speakers but they didn't fit in with the room furniture that we were working on so, I suggested making a new pair using the original components. They matched in perfectly. I was very pleased with the overall look and the dark Oak worked well with the lighter walls and the speakers sounded amazing!

The furniture was all based around the Coffee table design which enabled us to arrange the furniture to create an intimate feel wilst keeping the room nice and airy.

Georgian Walnut Panelling

Now this is something I am particularly proud of! I had a call from Mrs Manston in March of 2008. She wanted something a bit special for her bedroom but also something that portrayed her personality with a few quirky ideas thrown in! Mrs Manston was keen to have Georgian style panelling to invoke a grand statley home theme to her room. After a while of throwing ideas at each other, this is what we came up with!

I had a call from Pat half way through the work with a rather original all be it somewhat eccentric idea! She wanted some carvings to sit proudly on the posts of her bed stead, not your usual acorn or bed nob i might add, that would have been far too normal. Instead she wanted two carvings of the Egyptian god Anubis 'The God of Enbalming' She explained that when she eventually 'pops her cloggs' (her words not mine) they will be there to show her the way!!

You may not be able to see in the images but across one entire wall were fitted wardobes hidden within the panelling, this kept the continuation throughout the whole room with out affecting the overall look

Handmade Oak furniture

Well! What a great start to 2010. We have been busy here at David Head Furniture, which is always a good sign. During the start of January we finished a large on-going project for Mr and Mrs Ledger in Tottenhoe, Bedfordshire. The work involved two sets of wardrobes in the main bedroom, a third in the guest room and two rather large studies. The furniture was a typical oak shaker style which looked great in its modern surroundings, giving a real warmth to the rooms.

Fitted Oak Office Furniture 'From Start to Finish'

For the past few weeks we have been working on some fitted Oak office furniture for a couple in Northill Bedfordshire. I really enjoyed this job, its always nice to start on what was essentially a blank canvas! The majority of the work was carried out at the workshop to eliminate as much mess as possible for the customer; its always a worry when we make so much away from the destination that something is going to go wrong or not fit as we had hoped, but as usual, it all slotted in a dream! As you can see by the pictures, it was designed with storage in mind but also for the customers to be able to view the gardens from the desk. (The house is Georgian style with two windows to the left and right of the desk on the oposite wall) This made the shape of the desk key to the success of the furniture. We also managed to hide all the cables.

The Electrician was first on the scene to make all the relevant alterations to the sockets and phone lines. This gave us the oportunity to start bringing over the furniture. This took four journeys as there was so much! All in all The job took Two days to fit and transformed the room into a hugely functional study area.

Work-surfaces - Which Is Best For Your Kitchen

I get a lot of customers concerned about the durability of a solid wood work-surface, like every surface, you do have to look after it; but that extends across the board. There are pros and cons with every type. Granite is very unforgiving, you only have to set your wine glass down at a slight angle and it’s likely to break the stem. Formica, is in my opinion the most durable and flexible yet although the cheapest is also the least desirerable. Corian has many advantages; it can be easily re-finished (by a professional) looks great, but comes with a huge price tag. Glass is an option but again, hugely expensive and scratches far too easily to be a main contender; Although it does lend itself really well to a modern state of the art Kitchen. Solid wood is a great choice, it looks amazing and contrary to popular belief, it is relatively easy to keep and inexpensive. When I fit Solid wood work surfaces I treat them with a hard-wearing finishing oil from the company Liberon They have a huge range of finishes to suit most applications. Liberons finishing oil is hard-wearing easy to apply and is heat and water resistant. It is easy to maintain a perfect finish without the need to call me back to apply another coat. Simply make sure the surface is clean and dry, lightly wire wool to provide a key and rag on another light coat with a lint free cloth, simple! I suggest applying a coat in a well ventilated room just before you go out, because, like most good oils the smell can be a little over powering.

Close Encounters Of The Production Kind!

Unlike many of our competitors, we produce our own bespoke range of furniture including made to measure carcases and doors. We have a workforce of four; Myself to the left, my wife who makes sure the business is running smoothly behind the scenes, and two lads; Tom who has been working for me for a little over three years and served his apprenticeship here at David Head Furniture and Alex who has recently joined us and is currently working through his apprenticeship.
